2017 CADS Ski and Snowboard Festival

On behalf of the Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks events committee and the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre, in partnership with Alpine Canada Alpin and Canada-Snowboard, we are very pleased to confirm that the 2017 CADS Ski and Snowboard festival will be held a Sun Peaks Resort on March 26 to 31, 2017.

The 2017 CADS Ski & Snowboard Festival, March 26 to March 31 at Sun Peaks Resort, British Columbia welcomes Students and their Friends & Family and dedicated Instructors from across Canada. CADS offers a week of adaptive ski and snowboard improvement lessons, racing, fun games, on-snow activities, socials and an awards banquet. We hope you will join us!

Afternoon Events - Training and Certification Opportunities

We plan to provide ski and snowboard instructor certification courses and modules. Register thru the CADS event page.

What to Expect

First of all, we already know it will be a fun week! Plan to arrive on Sunday afternoon on March 26. Activities will wrap up early on Friday afternoon. The plan for the week includes:

  • Sunday evening Opening Ceremonies where Student/Instructor teams will be introduced.
  • Daily lesson program for free skiing and race training.
  • Ride and meet national Para-ski and Para-snowboard team athletes and coaches.
  • Instructor ski improvement clinics & certification courses and modules.
  • Après ski socials (Mon-Wed) at the BC Adaptive Snowsports Hospitality Suite.
  • Daily activities, brain teasers and challenges, including Snow Bocce and a Guesstimation Rac
  • AGM on Monday evening
  • CADS Awards Banquet & Silent Auction on Thursday evening

Student Opportunities for Skiers and Boarders

The registration fee is $395, includes five days of lift passes, five mornings of lessons or training, Awards Banquet ticket, all activities and a welcome package. Some Students will also ski in the afternoons while others will have the opportunity to explore and enjoy the resort amenities with their families:

The festival offers 4 levels of lessons & training:

  • Green: For the brand new beginner skier or boarder, taught by a certified CADS instructor. Participate in Guesstimation Race.
  • Blue: For those who have been on the hill but require hands-on assistance or tethering, with a certified CADS instructor. Participate in Guesstimation Race.
  • Black: For the independent skier or boarder looking for more mileage and wanting to explore variable terrain and improve their skills with a certified CADS instructor. Participate in Guesstimation Race.
  • Double Black/ Race Development: For those who feel the need for speed and wish to improve their skills with a certified competition coach. Skiers and boarders must be completely independent. Improve your free-skiing. Learn-to and/or improve your skiing in gates. Learn how to take care of your ski equipment. Participate in a banked slalom and gate race.

Teaching Opportunities for Instructors

The registration fee is $60, and includes six days of lift tickets, Awards Banquet ticket, all activities not requiring extra admission, and a Welcome Package. Any CADS Instructor is encouraged to attend Festival and enjoy the week. To qualify as a Lead Instructor, the priority will be candidates who have a minimum of Level 2A or New Level 2 CADS Certification and be available for the entire week; if approved, this candidate is also eligible for an honorarium. Some Level 1 Instructors may qualify, depending on the circumstances.

  • MANDATORY Instructor/ Volunteer Orientation will take place on the hill on Sunday 1-4pm.
  • We plan to provide optional Ski or snowboard Improvement clinics for our Instructors.

Volunteers Needed!

A person wishing to volunteer, or an Instructor who is not qualified to teach as a lead Instructor may apply to volunteer as an Assistant. The fee is $60, and includes 50% discounted lift passes with proof of CADS membership, Awards Banquet ticket, and all activities not requiring extra admission. If we need you, we will provide lift tickets; you must be available for the entire week.

  • MANDATORY Instructor/ Volunteer Orientation will take place on the hill on Sunday 1-4pm.
  • We plan to provide optional Ski or snowboard Improvement clinics for our Instructors.

Off-Hill Volunteer Opportunities: If there are other areas that you would be interested in helping with over the week, let us know! We will need volunteers to help with Registration all day Sunday and on Monday morning. We need helpers on Thursday afternoon with Banquet/ Silent Auction set-up. We will need some strong people to set up flags for the Banquet on Thursday afternoon. We need a scribe with great handwriting to letter names on the certificates. And other tasks not listed! Friends & Family

Friends and Family make it possible for our Students to ski and we warmly invite you to join us at Festival. The fee is $60, and includes 50% discounted lift passes with proof of CADS membership, Awards Banquet ticket, and all activities not requiring extra admission. There are lots of amenities at the resort for non-skiers to enjoy.

Additional Banquet Tickets

If you have additional banquet tickets you would like to purchase for family and friends who are not already registered for Festival, you may do so.

Cost is $60.

Banquet and Silent Auction

We host an annual Awards Banquet on the Thursday evening that includes Dinner and a Silent Auction. Tickets are part of your Festival Registration. Dress is ‘casual’. Dietary needs should be noted on the Student/ Instructor/ Volunteer Application Forms and/ or sent to deanna@disabledskiing.ca.

We need Silent Auction items and we depend on Festival participants for many of the contributions. This is a significant fundraiser for the Festival and helps to pay for costs. Please consider donating an item, large or small, or a gift certificate. We will accept cash or credit card on site. Contact deanna@disabledskiing.ca to notify her what you will be bringing as a contribution.

Equipment

  • CADS does not provide adaptive equipment. If you need assistance, please contact deanna@disabledskiing.ca to discuss.
  • Adaptive Equipment (i.e. sit skis) can be shipped ahead to Sun Peaks via Purolator (ONLY) if required, but advance notice is required at the receiving end. Contact deanna@disabledskiing.ca for details.
  • Ski and snowboard equipment can be rented on site at a ‘pass holder’ discount of 10% on rentals as well as on purchases.

Accommodation and Meals

Sun Peaks Grand has provided us with a variety of hotel/ suite options where you will be on-site for meeting places and social events. Book early as availability is limited!

An optional breakfast package is available through Sun Peaks Grand.

There are a number of restaurants available around the resort. Many families opt to rent units with kitchens so they can cook.
